However, I will take credit for these DE-LICIOUS flavor combinations. Well, one of them anyways...the other one, I have to credit my cousin Erin, who loves jello shots even more than I do.
For those of you who haven't seen this clever trick, you just have to try it. It's super easy, and your friends will think you are the coolest kid at the party.
And to kick up the flavor a notch, consider using whipped cream vodka and lemon jello for a lemon meringue or use sweet tea vodka for a jelled version of an Arnold Palmer.
You'll need about 6-10 lemons, depending on the size. (Plus, if you're like me, you'll probably tear or ruin at least two peels, so it's good to have extras). Each lemon will make four jello shots. Cut each lemon in half, and carefully juice them without tearing the peel. (Save the juice for another recipe or a marinade).
Next, you'll need to hollow out each lemon peel. I found a grapefruit knife and spoon to be really helpful with this. If you don't have either, you can use a paring knife, but just be careful not to puncture the peels. (And careful, if your hands are dry or you have any paper cuts, this could be a slightly painful process!)
Place the halves in a muffin pan to help keep them stabilized while setting. Make the jello according to package directions, except in place of the cup of cold water, substitute 3/4 cup of whipped cream vodka (for lemon meringue) or sweet tea vodka (for Arnold Palmers*), along with 1/4 cup of cold water. Transfer to something with a pouring spout (such as a liquid measuring cup) to make for easier filling. Fill each lemon half and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. (Note: these photos are of the Lemon Meringue flavor. Because of the "tea" color of the sweet tea vodka, the Arnold Palmers will have more of a golden/reddish hue to them).

I made these wonderful lemon jello shots for NYE...I was planning on making them again for Super Bowl Sunday...I was also going to make 2 more...I was going to try to make key lime...and these referee ones...my question is for the referee jello shots they use grape jello, grape schnapps (mix with food coloring for black) and sweetened condensed milk and citron vodka for the white layer...I am not fond of schnapps...I was thinking orange jello and cointreau and sweetened condensed milk and either regular or whipped creme vodka...what are your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThose sound adorable! You can pretty much use any type of alcohol. Love whipped cream vodka in the white layer. I would use as dark of jello as possible for the black layer.
